Neighbourhood Guide: Centennial Park
Centennial Park is a small, exclusive eastern suburb defined by the grand green expanse it shares its name with. Surrounded by the park’s ponds, horse tracks and avenues, it blends elegant Victorian and Edwardian homes with spectacular parkland access – one of Sydney’s most picturesque inner-east addresses.
Dining & cafes: The Centennial Homestead and Centennial Parklands Dining within Centennial Park offer beautiful in-park dining. Oxford Street Paddington, a short walk away, is lined with boutique cafes, Italian trattorias, modern Australian bistros and wine bars. Bondi Junction’s Westfield and surrounding streets add dozens of casual and fine-dining options. Woollahra’s village cafes and Queen Street boutique restaurants are close at hand. Specialty coffee and brunch spots are exceptional.
Transport & access: Frequent buses along Oxford Street, Anzac Parade and Alison Road serve the CBD in about 15 to 20 minutes. Bondi Junction station (a short bus ride or walk) is the T4 Eastern Suburbs line terminus, with trains reaching Town Hall in 10 minutes. Sydney Light Rail at Randwick connects to Central Station via the L3 line. The CBD is easily reached by car via Oxford Street or Anzac Parade.
Attractions & things to do: Centennial Park itself is the main draw – 189 hectares of ponds, avenues, horse riding, cycling and running tracks, playgrounds, and the open-air Moonlight Cinema in summer. Queens Park and Moore Park are adjacent, offering more open space. The Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium are close for sporting events. Paddington’s art galleries, Saturday markets and historic terraces are a short walk. Royal Randwick Racecourse hosts major racing events.
Shopping & daily essentials: The Paddington shopping strip on Oxford Street has boutiques, bookshops, bakeries, an IGA and specialty grocers. Bondi Junction’s Westfield is a major mall with every conceivable service. Pharmacies, post office, banks and medical centres are well covered in Paddington and Bondi Junction. “This apartment is very well located - if you like walks and picnics in Centennial Park, it is perfect. It is very close to bus stops for Bondi Junction (and trains) and a nice walk along the edge of Moore Park to the Light Rail for Circular Quay (and the ferries). Supermarket about 10-15 walk to Oxford St, and a lovely (but expensive) restaurant close-by in the park. The apartment was clean, secure and quiet, with everything you need if you get the urge to cook, need to wash clothes or just have an evening in.”
“The location is excellent in many respects. Close to city, beaches, harbour, Centennial Park and universities. The walk to the bus to the city is 10 minutes. But for cafes and supermarkets it’s not well located. A car is needed. No cafes or supermarkets close by. Shaz provided quick responsive service which was excellent.”
