Neighbourhood Guide: Manly

Manly is one of Sydney’s most iconic beachside suburbs, perched on the northern side of Sydney Harbour where it meets the Pacific Ocean. The classic ferry ride from Circular Quay sets the tone – Manly blends a relaxed surf town vibe with a cosmopolitan edge, and its famous ocean beach, harbour swimming spots and coastal walks make it a destination in itself.

Dining & cafes: The Corso, the pedestrian strip linking the wharf to the ocean, is lined with cafes, pubs, gelato bars, fish and chips, and casual eats. Along the beachfront, you’ll find everything from surf-side cafes to fine dining at institutions like Hugos Manly and The Pantry. East Esplanade and Manly Wharf offer waterfront dining with harbour views. Tucked-away laneways hide acclaimed restaurants, natural wine bars, and specialty coffee roasters favoured by locals.

Transport & access: The Manly Ferry to Circular Quay is a Sydney classic – a 30-minute journey that doubles as a harbour tour. Faster Manly Fast Ferry services take around 18 minutes. A broad network of buses (B-Line included) runs to the CBD, Warringah Mall and the full Northern Beaches. Parking is limited but public transport is so good you rarely need a car.

Attractions & things to do: Manly Beach is the main draw – world-class surf, Norfolk pines, and year-round swell. Shelly Beach, reached by a spectacular headland walk, is a snorkelling favourite. The Manly to Spit coastal walk is one of Sydney’s best half-day hikes. Oceanworld SEA LIFE, Manly Art Gallery & Museum, stand-up paddleboarding at Manly Cove, and surf schools cater to every interest. Evenings often end with a beer at the Manly Wharf Hotel.

Shopping & daily essentials: The Corso and Sydney Road offer boutique shopping, surf stores, and a good mix of chain retailers. Woolworths and IGA supermarkets, pharmacies, post office, and banks are all central. Manly Market is a weekend highlight for produce, handmade goods and street food. Medical centres and services are well distributed across the peninsula, making everyday life effortless.

Guest Reviews

“Nice place in the heart of Manly. Beach visible from the balcony”

Peter

“Really good place, excellent location. Could be cleaner but was overall good.”

Pedro

“Great spot to stay for doing business in the city. much better than being cooped up in a hotel room, and walking distance to anything you need!”

Richard

“Excellent location with a great family space, but could do with renovating. Getting up & down the stairs to reach the second floor apartment was tricky for our elderly relative, but we were aware of this before booking”

Ian

“Very roomy space in a great location”

Greg

“Welcome to 'Budget Beach Bonanza,' where the stairs are your unexpected gym and the ancient fans play at being wind machines. The lockbox is part of a fun dumpster-side treasure hunt. Early birds will adore our pigeon wake-up calls. The living room features a 'surprise' couch – spoiler alert: it's not as comfy as it looks. This place isn't the Ritz, but it's big, cheap, and beach-adjacent. Perfect for the un-fussy adventurer!”

Lillian

“The apartment is very nice, very large and well-equipped. It is close to all amenities, supermarket, restaurant, pharmacy, wine, beach and iron. The bedding is very soft, difficult when you have back pain. In the evening, the neighborhood is lively so noisy. But it remains a great apartment extremely well located in Manly Genial we recommend!!”

Frederic

“We really enjoyed our stay in Manly! The apartment was far more spacious than we thought (you need to upload better photos - haha!), the location is outstanding and everything went really smoothly. If you love Manly then you'll love staying in this apartment :-) We hope to come again next year!”

Nigel

“very nice stay great location recommended”

Baptiste

“Excellent stay”

David

“This apartment suited our family of 5 perfectly. It was clean and well appointed. The staff were very helpful and friendly. This part of Manly is lovely, very vibrant with lots of great food options close by. We used public transport and hired e bikes to visit the area and Sydney central. Brilliant.”

Emma

“BEST location, right in the heart of Manly, our family enjoyed dinners out and walking in the action. Place could do with a really good clean, but it had everything we needed for a great weeks stay. Thanks”

Kate

“Excellent location, Excellent service. Being so close to the ferry terminal a huge advantage for our team's business trip to Sydney.”

Colin

“Love loved the apartment and location.”

Jacci

“Great location right in the centre of Manly.”

Anouk

“Fabulous location. Plenty of space in the apartment- but not on the balcony! Flights of stairs up to the apartment take a bit of getting used to ....(didn’t realise how unfit I am!) Loved having laundry facilities and good WiFi connection. Excellent base for our holida”

Jan

“A spacious apartment in a fantastic location! It felt just like home.”

Julia

“We loved our stay at Keris's place in Many. It is very central and comfortable and spacious with a balcony overlooking the Corso and a view of the ocean.”

Isabelle

“The apartment is very spacious, and very well located near beach and ferry and also supermarkets within 100 metres. The beds were very comfy with plenty of blankets. Even though it is right on the Corso with plenty of night life around it was very quiet.”

Merren

“I've just returned back to the UK after a brilliant three weeks staying at Keris' place in Manly. The location of the apartment was ideal; right on top of all that Manly has to offer and just a few steps away from the shops, beach and ferry wharf. The apartment had all the facilities and amenities we needed for a family holiday and I believe was great value for money. No complaints whatsoever; I look forward to hopefully being able to book the same property again on my annual visit next year. ”

Liam-Jay

“Wonderful location, plenty of room for five adults, and great set up - everything we needed. ”

Barbara

“The reviews are accurate so it met our expectations. Great location and the flat is a great size for a large family. I would definately rent this property again if visiting Manly. ”

Deborah

“Great spot and location, it was great for our family holiday”

Kris

“Perfect location in Manly. From the balcony you can see both beaches. I would love to stay here again. It's right in the heart of Manly so you can hear some Saturday night revellers, but nowhere near being a problem. Apartment is fantastic too. Everything you need. ”
