Neighbourhood Guide: Forest Lodge

Forest Lodge is a character-filled Inner West suburb nestled between Glebe, Annandale and Camperdown, just west of the CBD. Known for its tight grid of Victorian terraces, leafy backstreets and tucked-away parks, it combines village intimacy with easy access to university precincts and the harbour.

Dining & cafes: Ross Street and Bridge Road form the main eating strips, with a mix of Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, modern Australian and casual pubs. Glebe Point Road, a short walk away, offers one of Sydney’s most varied dining strips – from acclaimed cafes to internationally renowned fine dining. Specialty coffee, bakeries and brunch spots abound. The Forest Lodge Hotel is a beloved local gastropub. Nearby Newtown adds even more options.

Transport & access: Forest Lodge is well connected. Light rail stops at Jubilee Park and Rozelle Bay link to Central Station and The Star in around 10 minutes. Frequent buses along Parramatta Road reach the CBD in about 15 to 20 minutes, and the 431 and 433 serve Glebe, Balmain and the CBD. Sydney University is a 10-minute walk. Sydney Metro at Barangaroo is a short bus ride away.

Attractions & things to do: Harold Park is a landscaped public park with walking trails, playgrounds and community gardens. Federal Park and Jubilee Park offer harbour views and weekend sport. Glebe’s famous Saturday Markets at Glebe Public School are a weekly institution. The Tramsheds, a former power station, is now a stylish dining and market precinct. Wentworth Park and Wentworth Park Greyhounds are nearby. The Anzac Bridge and Blackwattle Bay foreshore walk lead to Pyrmont.

“This place was a great place to base myself at while looking for another permanent rental. It contained everything I needed and I felt safe. The walls are quite thin so other residents could be heard, but that can be reassuring in a way. Great location near the Tramsheds for shopping and restaurants. Nice green spaces close by too. “The studio was comfortable and suitably equipped for simple meal prep, with a handy bench-top induction plate and an air-fryer/oven. I especially appreciated the assortment of pillows - easy to find the perfect one for your good night’s sleep. Plenty of laundry powder and dishwasher tablets were provided, enough for several cycles, which made it convenient to keep towels fresh and stay on top of personal laundry. The washer seemed to only use hot-water cycles, but it still worked well overall. The air-conditioning kept the studio at a consistent and pleasant temperature and the tv was a good size. Overall, the studio was an easy and enjoyable place to relax and call home for the week. Thanks for hosting me.”
